Closed to the beach you will find Cabopino Port with many restaurants. Cabopino beach can be considered as a naturist beach, reaching a medium occupancy rate all through the year, because of its good climate and because of having one of the nicest Ports of la Costa del Sol. More than 1000 of docks with a beautiful arquitecture and lots of entertainment places make Benalmádena a place for tourists.
Fuengirola: one of the places to find cultural signs of the different civilizations in south Spain (Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs). In the surroundings of the Arab Castle it has been foun a village from de Iberos that had its origin in the Romans. Istán: a musulman origin villaje that owes its survival to the long distance between the coast and the place. Within the area of Blanca Mountains in the head of Rio Verde and very close to Ronda Mountainline. | White Villages |
 |
The classic mountain route.
One of the most beautiful itineraries through Andalusia !
Far away from the big cities this travel route permits visits to small and medium sized villages in the provinces of Málaga and Cádiz with a special emphasis on landscape and nature attractions.
Description
Route passing the mountainous regions of the Sierra de Grazalema , Serrania de Ronda and Los Alcornocales . An excursion takes the traveller to the Natural Site El Torcal near Antequera .The white villages owe their name to the way their residents often scatter lime on the walls of their houses. These seem to be inserted like bird nests into the mountains and are usually adorned by a castle. Red tile roofs and narrow streets complete the appearance of a typical "pueblo blanco"..
Itinerary
From Arcos to Ronda and Castellar de la Frontera.
Distance
approx. 300 kilometers/185 miles |
| |
|
Best travel season
Spring/Early Summer (March until June) and Autumn (September until November); possible even during the Winter (February). .
Landscape an protected areas
The most of the described white villages are situated in the western part of the Bética ranges. The highest elevation is the Pico de Pinar (1654 meters) close to the village of Grazalema , the number one rainy region of all Spain . On the other hand, the Serranía de Ronda, just a few miles east of Grazalema, has a dry climate. Cork and holm oaks and the very rare Spanish fir ("Pinsapo") grow in the forest. In the west, close to Arco de la Frontera, predominates farm land.
Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park
With 51.695 hectares one of the bigger natural parks of Andalusia with a rich flora and fauna. 13 villages lie on the territory. (Information centre El Bosque)
Los Alcornocales Natural Park
Territory of 170.025 hectares with 15 villages. Belong to the provinces of Málaga and Cádiz. As seen in its name, the main growing tree is the cork oaks |

ARCOS DE LA FRONTERA
On serpentine roads the visitor climbs the mountain range high above the Guadalete river where the most important of the White Villages is situated. 28,000 inhabitants live there and the village is surrounded by large reservoirs, where you can go fishing/angling, bathing and surfing. |
RONDA, Cradle of the bullfight.
The extension of agricultural production and the rising importance of tourism are now the basis of the town's economic development. The most of its 34,000 inhabitants live in the new part of the city, "El Mercadillo", which is divided by an old stone bridge over an impressive river gorge from the old medieval part, called
To Visit:
